Block: Aggregator

Tags: | block | blog | event | aggregator |

The Aggregator block is a key feature of the CMS - it allows you to pull together (aggregate) content from around the rest of your site in to one place. Essentially allowing you to have sections of your site update automatically when you add new content.

The Aggregator block works with both Blog blocks and Event blocks, either individually or together. When editing a page with an Aggregator block on it you will be able to choose what type of content to pull through.

Concept
By default the Aggregator block will look for relevant content on all pages beneath the one it is placed on.

If you think of a website as a family tree, the homepage would be at the top of the tree (the parent) - pages directly beneath it are its children. Each of this child pages can in turn be a parent and have its own children.

It's easy to work out where a page sits in the hierarchy simply by looking at the URL of the page:

homepage - www.[yoursite].com/
child of homepage - www.[yoursite].com/child
child of child - www.[yoursite].com/child/child

etc.

Working on the above example, an Aggregator block placed on the homepage would pull through content from both its own child and it's child's child. Whereas if the Aggregator is placed on the child of the homepage it will only pull through content from its own child. Finally, an Aggregator block placed on the child's child wouldn't pull through anything as there is no content 'below' it.
